Client Work

Software Used

The client work I completed was for a University Group Project. We decided as a three-person-group to approach the Education services which help those students who are joining or currently at the College who have or suffer from Special Educational Needs. We created a 3D walk around to help with introducing and explaining the room for those who may be too overwhelmed, anxious or cannot make the in-person meetings.

Walk-Through:

This walkthrough features the full room which we modelled. We had several meetings, most which I talked through, with the staff and seniors who were in charge of the room, most of which were highly qualified Teaching Assistants who worked on a one-to-one basis with most of the children who frequented the facilities. This was a very special project as all three of us had a close connection to someone we know personally who could benefit from this kind of room when they were younger or in the future, being a help to promote these kinds of positive progression in the education field was something we were very happy to deliver on. Please note that the subtitle boxes during descriptions are fitted properly for resolution, however, the recording software did cut them off.

Responsibilities:

We split the workload into three parts over the academic year, we firstly approached the staff on the College Campus if we could meet and pitch our plan and idea for them, helping them understand the help we could give and what we would need in return from them. They were more than happy for this, which helped us move onto our second part which was creating allocated time, meetings and resources / research time to best approach the work. After this was completed, we began modelling and creating the level. We decided to use Unity for ease, one person focused on coding while myself and another focused on modelling and implementing everything to scale and likeness of the room. We gathered some videos, art and music abilities from the students who use the room to give a more authentical feel and inclusion to the students whilst also showcasing some abilities they possess. By the end of the project, we had a final build which you can see in the video walkthrough and we displayed this on a big XR wall in the University campus. I personally worked the walkthrough and went through the features to showcase to the staff, seniors and a few students they brought along with them. This is now an implemented piece of software they use at the campus both on PC and Mobile for those students to use and become familiar with.

For my responsibilities, I was required to:
- Have both online and in-person meetings with staff.
- Keep regular contact between the clients, updating them on progress.
- Keeping a documentation board / documentation of our progress and timeline.
- Model and texture most models found in the walkthrough.
= Understand the brief and match client as well as tutor expectations.
= Work in a team whilst including client.

Final Product:

There were extra features which I regret for privacy reasons I cannot afford to show you, such as a TV with the staff on introducing themselves in the entrance corridor, students waving on monitors etc. Though, their work is features within the piano music, the animations on the computers and the drawings on the boards, As well as the students doing voice overs for the descriptions. During our final presentation and reveal to the staff and students as clients, they were emotionally moved and tearful at the final product and said this made them feel recognised and what they do is worth it, which was all we needed from this work. We as a group did end up with full marks for this project, as well as a stellar thanks from the campus and clients, During the piano playing especially, the staff had a connection to that student who played the piano music for us, which made them very emotional and grateful for the inclusion.
